The Future of Food - presented by Harpinder Sandhu, PhD, MSc, BSc Agric

Professor Harpinder Sandhu is an ecological economist whose transdisciplinary research focuses on measuring social, human and natural capital for the transformation of agriculture and food systems towards sustainability. Professor Sandhu is currently based at the Federation University Australia. Professor Sandhu is leading the Ararat Jobs and Technology Precinct initiative, which is a collaboration between the Federation University Australia and the Ararat Rural City Council, for regional economic development. Professor Sandhu has over two decades of professional experience in agriculture and rural development, leading research initiatives in Australia and globally in sustainability analytics, non-market valuation, agri-economic modelling, regional land use and sustainability.

Professor Sandhu has collaborated with the United Nations Environment Programme to develop the scientific and economic foundations report of The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity for Agriculture and Food programme. At the United Nations Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, Professor Sandhu was a lead author of the Pollination Report and Asia Pacific Regional Assessment, which was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 2020. Professor Sandhu has published two books and delivered over 150 research outputs and technical presentations at national and international conferences and meetings. He is also an academic editor at PeerJ, Land and Sustainability journals.
